Last week Year 7 and 8 took part in the annual Charity Walk to Bedgebury. This serves two excellent purposes; it is a day that the Bethany community works together to raise money for charity, but it also allows tutors to better get to know their tutees.
This year saw us walking around Bedgebury Forest and the Pinetum in tutor groups, walking just shy of 14KM. The pupils handled this excellently with a brief stop for lunch and some time to enjoy the superb play equipment in the forest before returning to School.
We mustn’t forget that the main reason that we walk is to raise money for charity. Following the sad death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II it also seemed a fitting way to honour her memory and the charity work undertaken by the late monarch during her lifetime.
Tutors were asked to nominate a charity each and this was put to a vote by the pupils. Our chosen charity this year was one which I am sure is close to many people’s hearts; Cancer Research UK. I would like to take the opportunity to thank all those who have donated so far and sponsored their child to take part. At the time of writing, we have raised just over £1900.
Finally, a well done must go to Year 7 and 8 pupils for upholding the Bethany values of kindness, respect, and tolerance, making the day an enjoyable outing as always and a huge thank you to staff, without whom the day simply would not happen.
