Bethany was inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) in the first week of the summer term. This was a long overdue inspection and had it not been for Covid the School would have been inspected in January 2022.

The inspection was composed of two parts – a regulatory compliance inspection and an educational quality inspection. For the regulatory compliance inspection there are only binary judgements on all of the many Independent Schools Standards Regulations (ISSRs) namely pass or fail.

Bethany School are delighted to have passed all of these exacting standards and the inspectors verbally praised the School for the thoroughness of processes in all areas and highlighted recruitment of staff and safeguarding procedures as examples of best practice.

The second part of the inspection, the Educational Quality Inspection, makes judgements on two other key outcomes of schools, namely the quality of the pupils’ academic and other achievements and the quality of the pupils’ personal development.

In each of these areas there are four possible judgements;

• Unsatisfactory
• Sound
• Good
• Excellent

Bethany was judged to be excellent in both of these key outcomes.

These judgements were the result of triangulated evidence obtained in the questionnaires sent to parents, pupils and staff, interviews with pupils, staff and governors, as well as what the inspectors observed in the classrooms.

• “The quality of the pupils’ academic and other achievements is excellent.”
• “Pupils have excellent attitudes to their learning.”
• “The quality of the pupils’ personal development is excellent.”

Upon announcing the news, Headmaster, Francie Healy said:

“Bethany is a community and communities bring out the best in good people. The Bethany community is full of great people and we are also very fortunate to have such an excellent board of governors.

As these are the highest judgements that can be obtained, Bethany is rightly delighted and proud of these terrific accolades. Of course, Bethany is a team composed of governors, staff, pupils and parents and without all of us working together in harmony this would not have been possible”.

Inspections happen every three years, and therefore Bethany’s next inspection is due in 2026. However, the format of the inspection process is changing, and a new inspection framework will be operational from September 2023.
