In Drama, scholars worked on their physicality skills when preparing for character. The focused time provided an opportunity to promote a deeper understanding of drama and enable performances to become more challenging. One example was how Jake Taylor and Henrik McLean developed two separate monologues from Arthur Miller monologue’s and Molliere into one performance. The attention to tension and climax were vital in making the creativity work.
The Dance scholars workshop focused on improving alignment and use of focus to communicate meaning. The dancers learnt new lifts and contact movements and used images from professional works as inspiration for their own pieces. In a short time the girls each produced a duet or trio which incorporated all of the above.

Art scholars took inspiration from the Tutankhamun exhibition visit, using the images and sketches of the impressive artefacts to start to bring their drawings and photos to life on fabric. The Scholars were shown embroidery, sewing machine skills, brusho, beading, felting, applique and angelina textile techniques to help embellish their work. The scholars jumped at the chance of learning new textile techniques and loved the freedom they were given over their own work to show off their creative skills.
In DT, scholars were tasked with tackling independent projects of their own choosing. These projects are vast in range: from practicing 2D and 3D design skills, to making furniture, to developing steam bending skills. All the scholars involved used the time effectively and we look forward to seeing their progress on display.
The three Food scholars, Leo, Sophie and Amelia discussed what they would like to prepare for the Festival of Scholars and then spent an afternoon practicing some ideas including quiche, doughnuts and chocolate chip cookies. Ideas were flowing thick and fast and they are looking forward to creating some tasty morsels for the Festival. Unfortunately, they “accidentally” ate the evidence before it could be photographed so we will just have to wait to see their work on the night!
