Academic

Secondary education is a major step in a young person’s life towards further education or the world of work.

It is a time when key skills are developed and honed, when pupils learn to interact and integrate with their peers, and when they discover where their true skills and interests lie. We are fully committed to providing the very best secondary education, and as such our curriculum offers academic and vocational depth and breadth.

The heart of what we do at Bethany is to stretch our pupils’ ability by allowing them the opportunity to take on challenges. We encourage pupils to take risks, be persistent and learn from their mistakes and much of this is incorporated in our virtue of learning model. Staff develop a curriculum that embeds strategies that will develop potential, allow for development of talent and nurture creative and cognitive abilities in all our pupils.

We teach a variety of subjects throughout the first three years at Bethany, to allow pupils to recognise which areas are most suited to their interests, skills and abilities. Our broad range of GCSE and A level options, including vocational qualifications, provide the perfect continuation for them to fully explore and stretch the limits of their capabilities.

GCSE Options at Bethany

At Bethany we recognise that Year 9 is a time of important decisions and exciting opportunities. Vital choices about which subjects to study at GCSE need to be made after discussion of all the options.

That is why we ensure there is plenty of opportunity for Bethany pupils to carefully consider which subjects they want to study at GCSE.

“We are all thrilled with Amelia’s results. She could not have done it without the fantastic teaching and support from Bethany. The best decision we ever made was sending Amelia to Bethany.”

Our pupils are taught by specialists who are passionate about their subject area and keen to enrich and accelerate opportunities for all pupils, specifically those with the capability, potential or motivation to embrace challenge. In addition, our scholars are given a range of opportunities to extend themselves such as the Extended Project Qualification and Artsmark Award. Work by our scholars is celebrated at our Festival of Scholars, held in the spring term.

All staff across the School understand the needs of the children and the best methods of ensuring their educational and personal development. We ensure their needs are catered for as our individual approach underpins all that we do.
