Year 7 visited Southwark Cathedral on Tuesday this week, where they had the chance to consolidate their learning from this term with a guided tour of the Cathedral looking at the signs and symbols of Christianity.
Pupils had time to be creative and reflective when they designed their own stained glass windows, having spent time looking and thinking about the ‘Christ in Majesty’ stained glass window in the cathedral. After almost two hours on the coach (the pupils were brilliant with the longer journey) year 7 were raring to go, and the year split into groups for their activities. We then had a much awaited lunch on the banks of the Thames before swapping tasks in the afternoon. The highlights of the tour were getting dressed up as Bishops, Suffragan Bishops and Priests, seeing the Christian symbols all around the Cathedral that we have been thinking about in lessons and pupils also were given the chance to ask their questions, one guide was very impressed with the knowledge they had and the questions they asked. Hopefully year 7 enjoyed their day and got a lot from it. A big thank you to Mr Hampton and Mrs Zhao for coming along and making the trip possible, they tell me they learnt something from the trip too! We will follow this up in lessons and look forward to our next trip.
