A Summer Festival of Sport

The latest Bethany blog has been written by Mr Payne, Head of Sport. He writes about recharging over the coming break and enjoying the plethora of sporting events this summer.

We continue to be very impressed by the commitment and energy of our pupils to Bethany Sports. A mighty thirty five Junior and Inter team swimmers competed against Battle Abbey School at the end of June and an impressive five Junior cricket teams played last week, with two girls’ teams facing Dover College and three boys’ teams facing Dulwich, Cranbrook.

Fitness for performance is key and we continue to encourage all pupils into the gym and swimming pool at lunchtimes and during activities clubs for training sessions to improve this key performance area.

As we move towards the end of term, we will look forward to the summer break and a recharge, but also the mind turns towards next term and the return of football and hockey with lots of potential for pupil and team succession all year groups.

Before that though, we encourage all a healthy and active summer, lots of outdoor exercise and of course a summer of outstanding sports events to sit back and enjoy. The Euros are in full swing, and just maybe this time around, Football might be coming home! Nothing highlights British summer time better than Wimbledon, which has just begun and then the pinnacle of sporting festivals will be upon us, the Olympic Games.

For all those aspiring to be involved in health and sporting activity, whether it be general health and fitness at the gym, a social game of tennis or golf, or competitive sports at club or representational level, I read a great quote by legendary basketball player, Michael Jordan, “Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen!”

Go for it!
