Pupils Dazzle At Winter Concert

The Pengelly Performance Centre at Bethany was a buzz of excitement as it hosted this year’s highly anticipated Winter Concert on Thursday evening, drawing a full house of parents, staff, and friends. The annual event celebrated the vibrant talents of Bethany School’s performing arts community, showcasing a captivating blend of music and dance.

The evening’s musical repertoire was diverse and enchanting. Bethany Music Scholars delivered a heartfelt rendition of the Christmas classic “Light of the World”, setting a festive tone, while the Year 13 Band brought the house down with their electrifying performance of “Sweet Child O’ Mine”. Dance pupils added to the dynamic atmosphere, presenting a stunning array of routines that included both GCSE coursework pieces and teasers from next year’s eagerly awaited school production, The Little Shop of Horrors. Adding a special touch of holiday cheer, Bethany’s own answer to Michael Bublé, Thomas, charmed the audience with his smooth vocals on “The Big Fat Man”, kicking off the evening with style.

Reflecting on the success of the event, Mr. Bolton, Director of Performing Arts, shared his pride in the pupils’ achievements. “The talent at Bethany remains incredibly high,” he remarked. “What set this year apart was the opportunity to perform in a space with stage equipment that truly matched the calibre of our performers. Rehearsing for this event has been an absolute pleasure.” The Pengelly Performance Centre, inaugurated in October, has quickly become a cornerstone for the school’s performing arts programmes, having already hosted Drama showcases and an informal Year 11 music evening. “We are thoroughly enjoying this fantastic space,” Mr. Bolton concluded.

The concert marked an important milestone for many pupils, particularly for those stepping into the spotlight for the first time. Year 7 pupils Lily, Leo, and Samuel earned warm applause for their impressive debuts. Behind the scenes, Mr. Ramsden expertly managed the lighting and sound, ensuring every moment shone, while Mrs. Williams provided skilled accompaniment for the musical performances. Mrs. Payne’s choreography brought the dancers’ routines to life, and the entire evening was smoothly hosted by Mr. Bolton himself.

The event was hailed as a resounding success by all who attended, leaving the audience eager for future performances. Bethany Performing Arts continues to demonstrate its dedication to nurturing and celebrating the creative talents of our pupils, promising many more unforgettable evenings to come.
