Technical Theatre Pupils Visit the ABTT Theatre Show
Technical Theatre pupils recently attended the ABTT Theatre Show 2026, one of the UK’s leading exhibitions for theatre, live events, and entertainment technology.
The visit provided an exciting opportunity for pupils to engage directly with industry professionals and gain valuable insight into the many career pathways available backstage within the entertainment industry.
Throughout the day, pupils were set a challenge to network with exhibitors and industry experts, learning about their roles and experiences within the sector. From lighting and sound engineering to stage management, production, rigging, and venue operations, pupils discovered the wide range of opportunities available behind the scenes of live performance.
The exhibition also showcased the latest innovative products and technologies shaping the future of theatre and live events. Pupils explored cutting-edge lighting fixtures, audio systems, stage automation, digital production tools, and sustainability initiatives currently being adopted across the industry.
To encourage critical thinking and real-world application, pupils were given a bonus challenge: to identify a product or piece of technology that they believe would benefit the PPC. They will now develop and pitch their chosen product to the Performing Arts Faculty, presenting the features, benefits, and potential impact it could have on future productions and learning experiences.
The trip was an invaluable opportunity for pupils to broaden their industry knowledge, build professional confidence, and develop a greater understanding of the skills and opportunities available within technical theatre.
We look forward to hearing their product pitches and seeing how the experience inspires their future ambitions.
Huge thanks to Ms Zhao for accompanying us on the trip.
