Cats Choreography Workshop

On Monday 1st June, Year 10 Dance pupils were fortunate to take part in a dance workshop led by professional dancer, Gabrielle Parker.

Gabby has toured across Europe and Asia with CATS the musical playing the roles of Victoria/White Cat and Jemima. Gabrielle has also worked in TV and Film including dancing in Season 7 of Black Mirror and Seven Dials which has recently been released on Netflix. Gabby is very passionate about teaching and was able to share her love and knowledge of the industry with our pupils.

Gabby shared footage from the musical, poetry from T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats and taught sections of movement from ‘Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats.’ The workshop finished with a useful question and answer session where pupils learnt about and what life is really like for a dancer in the competitive performance industry.

The dancers will now creatively explore the repertoire learnt further, to prepare for their Live Performance unit next year.

“I really liked the ‘CATS’ dance workshop because it pushed me to explore different dance moves that I’m not used to. The style was unusual and playful, and it made me think more about character and storytelling through movement. I also enjoyed working with others and seeing everyone interpret the choreography differently. It was a really enjoyable experience that helped me see how imaginative and original the musical is.”

Dasha

“I really enjoyed learning about pathways into the industry and learning choreography from a professional.”

Florrie

“I loved exploring a new type of choreography while developing and building new skills.”
