Bethany is a leading independent co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 11-18, situated on a beautiful 60 acre rural site in the heart of the Kent countryside.
Specialist dyslexia support. Flexible boarding. Bethany is a school that meets your child where they are.
For some pupils, the right school is not simply the one with the best results. It is the one that understands how they learn, and gives them the confidence, support and space to flourish.
Different needs. One place to thrive.
At Bethany, we combine specialist dyslexia and learning support with a genuinely flexible approach to school life. Whether your child comes home every evening, stays a few nights a week or boards throughout the week, there is a way to make Bethany work for your family.
And with Marden station just five minutes from the School and direct trains taking around 50 minutes to central London, Bethany is closer than you might think.
Come and see what’s possible.
When learning feels different, support should feel personal.
Bethany has an experienced team of dedicated Dyslexia and Learning Support (DLS) teachers who work closely with pupils, parents and teaching staff.
The aim is simple: understand the individual, remove barriers to learning and help each pupil fulfil their potential.
Bethany is also an accredited member of CReSTeD – the Council for the Registration of Schools Teaching Dyslexic Pupils.
So, what does support actually look like?
It starts with understanding.
Our DLS team develops a detailed picture of each pupil, their strengths, areas of difficulty and the strategies that help them learn most effectively. This information is shared with teaching staff, helping teachers adapt lesson planning and classroom approaches around the individual pupil.
For pupils who need more targeted support, specific DLS lessons take place in small groups, providing additional help in a focused and supportive environment.
It is not about lowering expectations. It is about removing unnecessary barriers so pupils can meet them.
The Bethany difference
1. Understand the individual
We look beyond a label. We identify how a pupil learns, where they excel and where they may need a different approach.
2. Support follows the pupil
Information and practical classroom strategies are shared with teachers, so support is embedded across the school day rather than confined to one room or one lesson.
3. Targeted help when needed
Some pupils benefit from additional small-group DLS lessons alongside their mainstream education.
4. Confidence grows alongside capability
The goal is not simply to get through the next test. It is to help pupils become increasingly confident, independent learners who understand their own strengths.
5. Families are part of the conversation
Parents, pupils and teachers work together, creating a joined-up approach to learning and progress.
“We level the playing field. That is the essence of Bethany’s approach to learning support: helping pupils embrace their challenges and fulfil their potential.
One school. Four ways to make it work.
Bethany is not an all-or-nothing boarding school. And the choice does not have to be about geography alone. Bethany’s boarding community can bring independence, self-discipline, friendship, more time for activities and less time spent travelling into a pupil’s everyday life.
Alongside day and full boarding, families can choose weekly or flexi boarding, creating an unusual degree of flexibility around the needs of the child, and the realities of family life.
DAY – Home every night. Bethany every day.
For families who want their child to experience everything Bethany has to offer while remaining at home each evening.
FLEXI – A few nights. More freedom.
Board regularly on one to four nights a week, making flexi boarding ideal for families who want the benefits of boarding without committing to every night.
WEEKLY – Monday to Friday. Home for the weekend.
Weekly boarders stay at Bethany during the school week and return home at weekends.
For families who live too far away for a comfortable daily journey, it can transform the school week. Less travelling, more time for learning, activities, friendships and family weekends.
FULL – The complete Bethany experience.
Full boarders stay at Bethany throughout term time, apart from school holidays.
With staff living on campus, a strong pastoral community and an extensive programme of activities and trips, boarding becomes much more than somewhere to sleep.
London within reach. Kent all around you.
Bethany is situated in Goudhurst, nestled within the rolling hills and lush countryside of Kent. Dating back to medieval times, Goudhurst is a hidden gem surrounded by breath taking landscapes and steeped in history with a 15th Century Church and cobblestone streets.
But, London is surprisingly close. Marden station is around two miles from the School, with direct trains to London.

So your child can have the space, community and pace of a country boarding school, without feeling a world away from home.
Could Bethany be the right fit?
If your child is bright, curious and capable but finds some aspects of learning harder than others, the right environment can make all the difference.
And if you are looking for a school where boarding can be tailored around your family, rather than the other way around, Bethany offers something genuinely different.
Don’t just read about it. Come and feel it.
