Bethany’s annual Speech Day on Saturday was a celebration of achievement, reflection, reunion and, above all, gratitude.

This year’s Speech Day marked a historic moment for the School community as we gathered for the final Speech Day of Headmaster Francie Healy’s extraordinary 37 years at Bethany. A much-loved leader, colleague and friend, Mr Healy has shaped generations of Bethanians with his unwavering commitment to kindness, character and community.

The day was filled with pride and emotion as we celebrated the achievements of our pupils, welcomed back Old Bethanians for Reunion Day, and bid a fond farewell to our Year 13 Leavers as they begin the next stage of their journeys. Yet it was also an opportunity to reflect on Mr Healy’s legacy and the profound impact he has had on countless lives during his time at Bethany.

In a speech that was both heartfelt and characteristically humorous, Mr Healy reflected on his years at the School, sharing memories, wisdom and gratitude. He concluded with words that perfectly encapsulate the values he has championed throughout his career:
“It is nice to be important, but it is far more important to be nice.”

A sentiment that will remain at the heart of Bethany long after his retirement.
