School Counsellor (Self Employed)

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated self-employed School Counsellor to join our pastoral team.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the mental health and well-being of our pupils, offering counselling services, and working collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • To offer counselling to pupils for a range of issues including academic problems, difficulties with peers, behavioural difficulties in the classroom, emotional issues arising from parental separation and divorce, bereavement, relationships with parents, attendance problems, anxiety, and any other concerns pupils exhibit;
  • Sessions are of 40 minutes duration allowing 5 minutes between sessions.
  • To facilitate, delivery of sessions for anger management and raising self-esteem;
  • To liaise with the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead where necessary;
  • Also to liaise with other professionals, such as GPs, Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) when necessary and with consent from the student;
  • To implement a robust system of referral in order that pupils may access the services offered;
  • To keep suitable case records on each counselling/group session in a secure place, in accordance with the Data Protection Act;
  • Where appropriate to support the School in training staff or raising awareness of mental health issues;
  • Where appropriate addressing larger groups of children to address issues such as friendships, dangers of social medial or esteem.

 

Hours and salary

This is a flexible role, working 4 – 6 hours a week, £50.00 an hour on day or days to be mutually agreed.
